Advocating for the rights and protection of Talibé children while providing immediate relief and developing sustainable solutions.
Our Mission
Our central mission is to advocate for the rights of Talibé children in Senegal, West Africa and ensure their protection. With a focus on providing immediate relief and long-term impact, we supply essentials, while collaborating closely with local ethical daaras to develop sustainable solutions. Prioritizing access to clean water, nutritious food, hygiene products, sanitation facilities, and psychological support to safeguard children’s health and well-being. We are dedicated to breaking cycles of Talibé neglect, malnutrition, poverty and exploitation. Through our efforts we strive to offer every child the opportunity to thrive and embrace the joys of childhood.
Why support Talibé Children?
Talibé children are often orphaned or abandoned children sent to live in daaras, which do not receive government funding. Despite their numbers reaching over 100,000 across the country, child protective services are only available in the capital city, Dakar and are severely under-resourced, struggling to cope with the influx of Talibé runaways. Many of these vulnerable children can be found begging daily on the streets for spare change and food for extended periods, putting their safety at risk. Many daaras lack access to basic resources such as clean water, sufficient food, and healthcare, leading to widespread malnutrition and tragically, even deaths. The plight of Talibé children underscores a pressing need for comprehensive support and intervention to safeguard their well-being and future
“ Senegal has repeatedly pledged to put an end to forced begging by Talibés and improve the living conditions in daaras. Efforts have been made in this regard but remain inssufficient. The government needs to do more to end the suffering of Talibé children”
